*Amaechi disenfranchised again By Davies Iheamnachor Rivers rerun election: At least three people have been feared dead in the rerun legislative elections that held across the three senatorial districts of the state.

The election recorded heavy turnout of voters but the process was affected in some areas where there were cases of hijack of ballot boxes and cases of violence and shootings.

 

The Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi was again disenfranchised form voting due to missing of original result sheet. Recall that in the 2015 general, the former governor of the state did not vote because there was no result sheet.

 

Two people were earlier reported killed in Tai and in Gokana Local Government Areas, but later a youth believed to be a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was allegedly killed at ward 3, Mgbuitanwo community in Emohua LGA, the home of Andrew Uchendu, the APC candidate for the Rivers East Senatorial district.

 

 

Meanwhile, the Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, had engaged in a free for all at ward 8, unit 8, Ikwerre LGA. One of the supporters who was injured Mr. Abiola Ohele is receiving treatment at a health facility in the area.

The younger brother to the victim, Mr. Samuel Ohale told Vanguard at the hospital: “The person lying critically injured here is my elder brother, Abiola Ohale. We were just waiting at our polling unit, unit 8, ward, the material has not arrived yet, when some boys came even in the presence of police men.

“The boys are from here but they are not registered at this pulling unit. When they came they started making problem. They used stick and hit my brothers head. ” Opobo/Nkoro Hoodlums had hijacked electoral material for unit 9 ward 7 in Opobo/Nkoro LGA and brutalized some persons.

The Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASSA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, confirmed that electoral material meant for one ward was hijacked by thugs quickly added that the materials were later recovered from the hoodlum security personnel in the area.

Peterside who spoke after visiting that area said: “Opobo/Nkoro is peace generally now. We observed that they imported some people from outside the LGA. Election for one unit was hijacked by some boys, but the security agencies have recovered it. Materials have arrived and election is going orderly.

The election was peaceful” Meanwhile, electoral material arrived arrived Ubima community and that of the Minister of Transportation, at 9:40 Chibuike Amaechi, unit 14 ward 8. But voting was stalled in five units as a result of no original result sheet. Youths who were aggrieved other the development arrested the Presiding Officer in charg of Amaechi’s unit, Siminore Oshinokho, and handed him over to the military.

The Supervisory Presiding Officer in the area, Mr. Lasisi Rhino to our correspondent that the PO due signed and collected the original results sheet for unit but wondered why it was not insight. But the former governor of the state, Sir Celestine Omehia, who voted at ward 8 unit 14 had expressed displeasure with the absence of security men at his, Ubima and other polling units in the area Meanwhile, the leader of PDP in the area, Rev. Nna Ordu, has accused the security of conniving with the INEC to rig the election in favour of the APC.

He said result sheets were changed in the area with already written results by the security men.
