A Sokoto State Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered that Nura Saraki, a civil servant, be remanded in prison over alleged culpable homicide.

Chief Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, gave the order to enable the police to conclude investigations.

The magistrate adjourned the case until November 12 for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Samuel Sule, told the court that the case was reported at Dadin Kowa Divisional Police headquarters by one Hassan Abubakar of Manuru road on September 22.

Sule alleged that the accused, who led a four-man gang, now at large, beat up one Ibrahim Aminu to death after accusing him of stealing a cellphone at Tundun Wazam area of Sokoto.

After the charges were read to him, Saraki, 39, who resides at Tundun Dan Wazam area of Sokoto, pleaded not guilty.

The offence, the prosecution said, contravened the provisions of Section 221 of the Penal Code.
